NOWRA trainer Robert Price believes a return to the regular practice of getting Art Official to the barriers early should pay dividends in the Spring Valley Welter (1600m) at Randwick today.

The eight-year-old was a late scratching when he refused to go into the gates a fortnight ago but Price put that down to a late routine change.

"The starter just decided he wouldn't go around there early like usual and it stuffed everything up," Price said. "I really thought he would win last start and he's not out of this race. We'll go back to what has worked in the past (at the barriers) and I'm sure he will run a bold race."

Price also has Feral Errol in the Captain Arthur Class 2 Handicap at Kembla and is happy to finally have him over a staying trip.

"His run in Sydney last start was very good and the 2000m should really suit him," Price said.
